LIFE. This four letter word holds different meanings for different people, each one with their own definitions based on their experiences. You may have come across various quotes that say, "Life is simple" but does our experience say the same? Nope. Life is confusing and at times complicated. There are times when you are extremely happy and joyous and within a blink of your eye something happens and your life comes crashing down on you and at the same time when you thought your life was over and it is at its worst, there was this sudden ray of hope from somewhere and within no time, you're back on your feet to face your life head-on!
With all these going on, we tend to question everything that is happening to us and we start to become a little cautious when we are happy, worrying if something might go wrong and when we are sad, we keep hoping that someone will eventually come and get you out of that dark space. (Don't rely on someone else to do that, I repeat, DON'T!) So in simple terms, we can say that life is an unpredictable turn of events that makes you who are and comes with a dealing breaking package - the past, the present and the future.
Now these are the 3 things that controls your life, the way you perceive it and the way you turn out. Of course, all of us want a happy ending but how do we do it?
Life is not too simple yet it is not a rocket science either (Thank god for that!) so just like how we train our body in physical witness, we need to train our emotions. For physical fitness, we start dieting, we control the intake of food, the amount of calories we consume, the carbohydrates, the fats etc! and even though it pains, we start exercising, training our body to look in a certain way, a healthy way. Just like how food and exercise go hand-in-hand in physical fitness, your emotions on the past, present and the future go hand in hand in your emotional well-being or more importantly, your inner peace.
Now you many ask, "Okay Prajwal, I get it, these are the important things for our well being, but what can I do about it? The past was out of my control, that's how I ended up in this messed up present and the future? we definitely can't control it and god knows what's in store for us!"
Yes my dear, you are right, you cannot control what has happened or what is happening or what will happen to you that is out of your hands but what you can definitely control is your emotions, your reactions towards the situation and your own feelings right?
The past is like an unhealed wound, the more you hold on to it, the more you bleed. You may have suffered a trauma, a really bad break-up, a big financial loss or the loss of a loved one. It maybe anything, but you have to learn to let it go. Learn to make peace with the facts. No amount of regret can change anything now, isn't it? What has been done is done. But what you can do is take a lesson from it and implement it in your present.
The Present is an amazing gift, this one moment, this minute, this second, you hold the power to write a bad history or a prologue to a greater future. You can keep regretting and guilt-tripping about your past and just keep moving like a motion-less, feeling-less body or you can take the reins of your life and decide for yourself, "I have been gifted with this moment, what all can I accomplish with this time so that my future self will be proud of his past?"
Your future is not for you to worry about nor your past, the only thing you need to take care of is the present, this will help you re-write your past and the word "past" may not sound horrifying for the future you anymore :)
Take your time to heal, forgive the wrong doers of the past, get yourself back on to your feet because this very moment of your life? No one can take that away from you. They may have spoiled your past but they don't have the power to ruin your present unless you give it to them!
So stop spending on your past, pull yourself together and plan on what can be done now so that one year from now, when you look back, you should be proud of the decision you made! I hope this article is an awakening point in your life and I hope its inspired you to think and plan for a better future.
